Transplant Anniversary! Seven Years of Perfect Health!

Before Transplant Early 2003

A Special Bond…

In 1993, I was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease, where my immune system was destroying my kidney tissue (IGA Nephropathy) . The disease can result in kidney failure, and for me had done so by early 2003. Dad was the first to insist that I take one of his kidneys. At the time, he was 59 years old and the normal donor “cut-off” age was age 57. I was honored and thrilled as he passed all of his donor testing with flying colors. On September 2nd, 2003,  I will never forget looking at Dad while we were being prepped for his first ever surgery. I felt chills realizing that I was putting my dad in a potentially life threatening situation. Dad’s glance of confidence and resilience calmed me down. I grew up believing that my Dad was the best and strongest in the world and here he was proving it once again.

Seven years later we are both enjoying perfect health.  He said I had better take care of this kidney because he is keeping his other one. (Not sure I should be typing this while @ McDonalds eating a double cheeseburger (be sure and ask for mac sauce) and grease sticks??) Anyway, I am a bit spoiled as I have taken more from my Dad than most.

I often dwell on the gift I have been given. I think of the extended life and quality of life I now enjoy because of his gift. Then I am reminded that we all have a Heavenly Father that gave us all a gift as well. It is a gift that also cleans up our life and greatly improves our quality of life. The gift also extends our life.. the longest possible.. Eternally!

Heavenly Father thank you for Jesus.. John 3:16   and thanks Dad for being an example of Him.

Christian Booksellers Show to get Ipad???

Wow… what a nice suprise while at the annual ICRS convention in St. Louis this summer…I visited the Anchor/Whitaker booth.  I arrived a few minutes before the drawing for an Ipad.  So I filled out the drawing slip as usual not expecting to win as usual. With 100 or so people anticipating the winner, that had to be present to win, they drew a name and …. it was not mine.. and was not the name of anyone present either… Whew.. another chance.. They drew another name … John O’Dell… I threw both hands up in the air an yelled .. Yes!!   It was my birthday too!!   What a gift.. a neat gadget to show tons of PC users the power of the apple platform. Happy Birthday to me! and THANK YOU Anchor distributors.

Running in to Skillet..

In the airport returning from trip, we ran into one of my sons favorite bands , Skillet. The were great to chat with us.. plus offer tickets to their evening show.. speaking the language of our kids.. and positive role models… neat blessing.. Here my son poses with the band.
